A few days ago while I was trying to decide on what I would call this blog, I came upon a posting a friend had put on Facebook. It quoted Proverbs 4:23, "Keep the heart with all diligence, for out of it are the issues of life."
As I thought on this verse it came to me that the heart is most important to us. Physically, if it stops beating, life stops. Every conflict in life originates from the heart. Every good and moral thing comes from the heart. It depends on the application of our character.
When we understand character we know that every character quality or lack of it, is an expression of good or evil. For instance, love vs. hate, generosity vs.stinginess.
Let's say your child is rebellious and disobeys you. This is a of a lack of honor and obedience. Every character flaw has a balancing character trait.
The more we understand character (issues of the heart) the more we understand that character qualities are actually designed by by God to help us realize our need for Him and His power in our lives.Only through God's teaching can we begin to understand how to guard our hearts.
True character qualities are an expression of love. So, as we learn to guard our hearts we go through a process of gaining His power of genuine love and character qualities.
In the days ahead I hope to share more of what I am learning about guarding the heart.
Character is of the heart.
Character reveals the Lord Jesus Christ and He is the full personification of all good character qualities.
Understanding character explains why things happen to us, because we know that all things work together for good to conform us to the character of Christ.
When we guard our hearts we must turn from all evil thoughts and actions that demean our character. How we guard and react to any issue of life is determined by our character.
I hope to see you back here soon as we learn more about the Power of God's character in our lives.
